Magenn Power

I stumbled upon this company called Magenn Power Inc. today.
They've developed a new type of wind turbine which floats in the sky using helium, and transmits power down a tether to the system. They're releasing the home version of this turbine in 2006 (Aprox. $9,999 USD) for a 4 kW generator. This solves basically every problem I can think of with Wind Power, and they look like they've put a lot of consideration into many problems that hadn't occurred to me (for example, the system is made from radar reflective material).
Let's hope for all our sakes this takes off and we can all reduce our dependance on fossil fuels and nuclear (even though I like nuclear) to a certain degree. When I was in first year, one of the things I had to do was write a big ass report on the current state of the power grid, doing statistical analysis of generation capacity. My findings were essentially that the grid was never designed to be a market system and to handle shunting of power all over the place. I think that it's important as a society to really get on board with technology like this, and providing economic incentive (like turning this into a source of personal profit by selling extra power back to the grid) to consumers is an important part of getting the masses to buy into this typeof thing. I know a lot of people who are dismally worried about the state of the world, but let me tell you, there's a lot you can do if you go out and do something
about it.
I think the world will be a very different place in 10 years.

Hey, great post. I mentioned Magenn Power in my blog posting at around the same time, but wonder whether local government/neighbourhood "nimby-ism" will restrict widespread use of devices such as these. I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me!
Another con to screw money out of dumb investors who are scrambling after any possible technical fix to peak oil and climate change. What happened to the air car?
It's easy to poke and say things will never work, but if you think it's a big scam, you should back it up with an argument. Preferably a technical one.
WOW...what a posting, starts to get people talking and thinking, well some of us anyway. Three cheers for Magenn, lets hope they pull it off.
Seriously though, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. The 4 KW unit is pretty huge (for a small cottage) and the giant floating orb in the about section is outright hillarious.
Dutch reader.
Looks very useful to me.
I thought the price was 999 dollar, and not 9.999.
You can put up thousands, and at very high altitudes generate much more. The Dutch astronaut, Wubbo
Ockels tries to achieve a comparable goal, by series of
kites, moving in a circle through the air. He did not succeed satisfyingly yet.
The german Skysails use a kind of windfilled-kite (or matras), from up to 50 by 100 meter. It can generate 1 - 1,5 Kw per square meter. They are going to use it for
pulling forward large ships across seas and ocean.
In a National Geographic (?) tv
movie I saw that zeppelins are
observing the southern border of the USA and they are at an altitude of 3500 meter. At that
altitude you probably can catch some extra energy (combine the two
purposes ?)
In total a big plus to me.
At the other hand, they must not be shot.
Filling them with hydrogyn in the future can make pepole more independent, because you can make it yourself.
They get my support.

I must correct a few things.
Like the writing of hydrogen, satisfactory, and of course, the price, 9.999 Dollars.
Small windmills generating 1 kw.
are often advertised foor 200 $ or
more, so Mars is not really expensive.
Depending on the prize per kw. it is earned back in 6 years(5 cents) or 3 years (10 cents), if it works as the firm wants us to believe.
Although it is at the smae place, most of the time, you probably can
try to attach your advertisement-banner at the rope or cable below the balloon. Seeking and combining ideas may make Mars of Magenn a toy
and a tool in one.
And more-over, things at the fossile-energy-front are rather
uncertain. Every idea that works
may be helpful.
Imagine that you adapt the german Skysails for generating energy ?How much can you get ?
And if we are really smart, we produce a Mars-balloon that is strong enough to go in the air after we have pumped it empty
[do not tell anybody, it is my idea. Joke.
A monk, some 2 - 3 hundred years ago, thought that he could make
voyages, to the moon and stars with a space-ship made from empty balls. ( mustI try to find it back ?) I think even the army or NASA is considering the idea, as a help.
The stars may be a bit far away, but why not try things like Magenn's Mars. Certain cloth-s nowadays are stronger than steel.
I have to leave now.

As far as the television-movie is concerned, I am not sure whether it was National Geographic or
Discovery Channel, and whether it were 3500 feet or meter. Anyhow, it was about zeppelins & blimps.
Some searching made me find more
bout what I told you.

Trust me you want to stay clear of these guys. Mac Brown screwed a lot of people in Ottawa with his rebel venture- a lot of people. If you like leadership in a company that holds meetings in Strip clubs and has VP's with grade 10 educations then this companies for you.
Like the ballons, your wallet will be a lot lighter as your money will be about the only thing blowing in the wind.
Screwed and Tattoed in Ottawa
Are you one of the "alleged" screwed, or
are you basing your information on heresay.
This guy may be onto something. Read rebel.com.
I wouldn't trust this "Mac Brown" character. Google him and read up on his history.
