Apple
So i've been put through a long indoctrination process to bring me over to the mac side of things. They put us in a neat little room for a training session yesterday where all the walls were whiteboards. The guy running that show was the very spitting image of what you'd expect a hardcore mac guy to be like. Anyhoo, at the end of the day, after using my mac for 8 hours straight, i'm fairly comfortable with it now, and I actually like a lot of the way things work in it better than Windows.
I've found that Apple is very, very good at presentation. All their products, whether they be hardware or software, are very easy to use, and nice to look at. They put the spit shine on all that they do. I think that this is possible for them because they do make 'the whole widget' as they say. When you own the entire user experience, it makes it a lot easier to integrate everything and make it all flow nicely, mesh well. Ironically, I think if Apple had a bigger market share than they do, they would begin to get slammed with Anti-trust litigation left, right, and center.
The marketing team at Apple is also top notch. If you haven't seen the new mac commericals... get off your ass. They're pretty funny.
Apparently Al Gore (Yeah, that Al Gore) is on our board of directors, and Bill Clinton comes to Cafe Macs for lunch from time to time.
It's very surreal being here. Apparently I lucked out and my place is a 10 min walk from downtown Mountain View, where there's a train station, and Apple sends a shuttle from there to drive the employees right to work. It's funny to sit around waiting for the shuttle, because a number of other area companies do this as well. So you're sitting there and all the names start showing up. Apple, Google, Yahoo!, NASA....
Very odd indeed.
