Are you on the fucking moon?

Update! Angus wins the election, by a margin of two votes! Vice President External baby! In other news, Todd also won his race (by a much greater margin). My favorite story from the scruntineers is that apparently the scrutineer for my opponenent made the comment that she "Hoped I brought my class out to vote, or it would be a landslide victory for Steve". My new nickname is apparently Landslide Angus.

I was getting sick of being called Avalanche Angus anyway.

In other news, this is pretty funny: Blogjam presents: Neil Armstrong - The Truth

What my life is like these days

I realize that i've been Missing in Action for the last couple of weeks, so I thought i'd do a little recap.

School:
I've been hammering away at my Microprocessors project for some weeks now. Todd and I have now got the thing working (as of 10:30 last night, sitting in a dark lab we have the code for, but aren't supposed to) so that moving the joystick around will cause the speaker to emit a sound rather like a frog having its nuts squeezed, at varying pitches.

Oh the joys of technology.

More importantly, time has been ticking away on our Operating System. That fucker is still no where near operational, and there's a big mind-gap between where we are and where we have to be. I have a vague idea of how to do some of this shit, but the support network from the school is only beginning to kick in now, so I expect a running gunfight until the end of march.

Midterms were a number of weeks ago, 3 of my marks were in the 70s which these days seems... ridiculously high. I almost got an 80 in a course everyone else was spitting blood about. Me and digital hardware just get along nicely. Marks need to pull up more for finals. It's been ages since i've had time to do any homework.

Co-Op:
Yes, i'm still going to Apple. A small handful of people are thrilled about that, the rest are generally happy for me, but don't really want me to go. I've got a house picked out, as you can see.

For some reason the link to the housing website doesn't work, but if you care you can go to Here and Scan down the list to Avalon Mountain View, the apt. i'm in is called "The Monterey".

My Passport application has been done (By the way, if you need a passport, do it online, you get to skip the very long line at the Passport office when you go in to hand in the paperwork). Visa application is in process, Documents sent to Apple. I'm nearly all set.

Exec:
As if my life weren't hectic enough, Someone convinced me that it would be a good idea to run for Vice President, External Affairs for the Engineering Society at Waterloo.

This is about the second heaviest workload position, next to president (Which Ruth-Anne was acclaimed for and ratified one Wed.!). Basically it would be my job to appoint directors to manage things that involve the outside world, charity events, Student Life 101, etc.

Additionally it means I would have to run my ass around the country to different conferences to be the main representative for Waterloo. You can see some of my campaign posters on either side. I don't realistically expect to win, but we'll see what the populous has to say on monday.

Romance:
Without getting into too much Gory detail, the vicissitudes of fate have placed me in a new relationship. The lovely girl in question goes by the appelation of Kate Kelly, a friend of mine for some time. She has for some time been in a relationship with another fellow, and i've been...otherwise preoccupied. A couple of weeks ago this unravelled and shortly thereafter we became involved (When that girl decides she wants something, she has a way of getting it). At any rate, i'm rather pleased with the whole situation, and while it will be some weeks before everything gets sorted out and stabilized, things are looking quite well in that department.

Spore

So there's this game coming out later this year (Hopefully) called Spore. I won't ruin it for you, but the very sight of this game makes me giddy. It's made by Will Wright, the guy who brought us The Sims. He's been a very good boy.

There's gameplay video Here, it's long, half an hour, but it's so, so worth it. People keep sending me links to this thing, i've known about it for weeks now, but my life has been hellish lately and haven't had time to blog.

Take a block from the middle and put it on top.

For all my concerns about last week, it turned out rather well. I can't even recall half the things that happened last week, as I haven't gotten more than 5 hours sleep since last weekend... which was reading weekend? That seems like months ago.

Let's see... I've gone out for coffee with more people last week to discuss things than I can recall. Real-time OS design doc submitted. Lab writeups in. Midterms back and Midterms return for remarking (after some negotiations). Bus Push (and car accidents) and Pub Crawls and Engsoc Exec Nominations. Meetings and Class and Polygraphs and Failing Polygraphs. Waking up at all hours of the morning and smiling and cascading back into slumber. Needing to sleep but not sleeping and not being able to sleep and not caring. Worlds flipped over in a few nights and watching the pieces fall where they may.
